Tokyo Gendai is an international art fair featuring leading contemporary art galleries from Japan and abroad, ranging from emerging artists to world-renowned masters. Beyond being a venue to discover and acquire artworks, the fair aims to establish a platform for cultural exchange connecting Japan’s art scene with the global art community.

2027 Fifth edition information

In 2027 Tokyo Gendai takes place from 5–7 November at Ariake GYM-EX, Tokyo. Set in an exceptional venue in central Tokyo, the fair’s move to November situates it within a moment of extraordinary cultural energy when the city, and Japan more widely, comes alive with seasonal festivals, art activations, and the natural spectacle of autumn. Tokyo Gendai further anchors this singularly compelling moment for Japan’s cultural scene, in a month brimming with local events.

Tokyo Gendai 2026

Exhibiting Galleries & Sector

Globally acclaimed galleries will once again come together, presenting across five key sectors. The sectors include the flagship “Galleries,” “Hana ‘Flower,'” and “Eda ‘Branch,'” alongside the newly introduced “Miki ‘Trunk,'” dedicated to works on paper including photography, drawing and prints. Additionally, “Tane ‘Seed,'” dedicated to presentations with a focus on digital media, returns for 2026.

Art Talks

This year’s popular “Art Talks” series once again brings together leading figures from across the art world to discuss the currents and trends shaping today’s art scene. The 2026 programme features 9 panel sessions in which speakers share their insights and expertise, offering fair visitors an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the most pressing topics in the art industry today.
